This page is intended to give members and cricket lovers everywhere a few snippets of information, some serious some not so serious, about umpiring and cricket in general and if anything stirs your imagination to take up umpiring, please contact the secretary.

Sponsorship

We are very pleased to report that Ben Skipworth, Dorset Cricket Board, has negotiated sponsorship for DACO umpires standing in the Dorset Premier and Division One leagues this season. This consists of polo shirt, sleeveless sweater, trousers, and jacket with the league logo on the breast and Wessex Internet on the back. We are very grateful to all concerned.

Recruitment

We are always very short of umpires to stand in the leagues. The League committee are looking at ways to encourage clubs to put forward individuals who are prepared to take on this important work. Details are yet to be finalised but there are likely to be league points available for teams and some financial help for the individual concerned.

Captain's Marks and ACO Grades

The ACO have been looking at this and how they can assess an umpire’s progress. Whostheumpire will be exclusively used for this process and details of matches umpired as recorded on WTU, are now being used to compile the umpire grades. A paper guiding captains on the completion of their feedback can be found on the In Ex file on WTU.

Disclosure & Barring Service Certificates

Please note that the procedure for renewing a DBS Certificate with the ECB has changed and is now an On-Line Only procedure. If you need to renew a certificate please contact the Secretary who can institute the procedure.
